Story: Root's parents were both from very poor families, both with large debts to pay off, which lead to them shunning society as a whole and living in the wild and roaming around freely, and they both decided to continue the tradition and did the same with their children. Root and her siblings usually spent most of their time helping their parents gather food from whatever area they were sheltering in, and never had much time to explore, or learn new things, but despite this she managed to get a good education. At night she would sneak out of the house and listen in on whatever lesson was being taught at the nearest school (Because there were usually nocturnal classes for owls and other nocturnal species), she had issues with language arts however, because she had only a few books that her uncle would give them as gifts (He had left his parent's ways and went back into society. He brought them gifts because he pitied them not having a good education), and she had to write out in sand or mud as they had no paper and pencils, a similar situation occurred with math, but in the other subjects she excelled, especially science. This made it hard on her though, as she was getting too little sleep and couldn't function very well during the day, which lead to her parents discovering her secret by the time she was 9 months. They forbid her to learn any more, which lead to her running away. After she left, she felt a great relief. She spent some time adjusting to society with her uncle, and got her gift at that time. After that she decided to head out on her own to try and make her way, unrestricted by her parents and having to gather only enough food for herself. She tries to do so by inventing things, her wing reflectors are just the first of the things she has in mind.
